The meeting was chaired by the honorary Prof. Rashad BARSOUM, who started the meeting with a few introductory slides about the history of Active vitamin D, it's survival benifits in chronic renal disease patients and concluded stating "the equipotency of oral and intravenous therapy of alfacalcidol".

The first session started with clinical cases presented by Prof. Adel AFIFI on renal osteodystrophy and the differential diagnosis.

Prof. Mohamed SOBH then presented a case on Secondary Hyperparathyrodism, the lines of management and the role of alfacalcidol in controlling the bone hunger syndrome.

Prof. Ahmed GABER presented a case with evidence based medicine that effective surgical therapy of severe hyperparathyroidism can be accomplished by subtotal parathyroidectomy, or total parathyroidectomy with parathyroid tissue autotransplantation

During the second session, 2 cases were presented by Dr. Mohamed EL KHATTIB in which the K/DOQI guidelines, types of phosphate binders and the different routes of alfacalcidol administration were dicussed

Prof. Mohmed SOBH presented a case of Brown tumour in the Spine in an end stage renal disease patient and explained the rarity of such cases and that brown tumours are erosive bony lesions due to osteoclastic overactivity and impared vitamin D synthesis.

The second session was concluded with an interactive session by Prof. Ahmed GABER during which different guidelines for management of bone disease in chronic renal disease patients were discussed. This included the use of bisphosphonates, best mode of administration and the different dose adjustments of active vitamin D therapy.
